A Full Writesonic Review for 2024

Why Trust Techopedia
Our Verdict

Writesonic is an AI writing tool that uses real-time, factual Google research.

Writesonic is an AI tool that offers copywriting for a range of purposes, including templates for blogs, social media posts, marketing copy, and more. It also has its own chatbot, Chatsonic.

Both the Article Writer tool and Chatsonic are trained on up-to-date information found from Google during the article’s generation. This makes the output highly relevant and accurate.

We were impressed with the high-quality output and the inclusion of plagiarism detectors and footnotes. This means you can be confident that your article is original and factual.

Writesonic also boasts an impressively human-sounding audio generator, making it an ideal tool for writers who want to create text and audio on one platform.

The downside is its credit system, which only limits the use of its top Article Writing tool. We found that this heavy limit on use really dampened our time with the AI tool.

In this Writesonic review, we’ll analyze the popular AI writer tool that’s used by content creators, writers, and marketing professionals to produce high-quality content and SEO-optimized articles.

With so many AI writing software on the market, it can be difficult to choose the right one for your needs. Our Writesonic review compares it with some of the top AI writer tools by looking at its pricing, features, pros, and cons to help you decide which one is best for you.

What is Writesonic Used for?

Writesonic can be used by individuals or teams that want to generate high-quality, factual, and plagiarism-free content through AI generation.

It excels in streamlining the content creation process, making it an invaluable asset for generating SEO-optimized articles, blogs, landing pages, ad copies, emails, and product descriptions.

Writesonic efficiently produces content that takes Google rankings and competitor comparisons into account in real-time. It also has a diverse range of features for creating various types of content, including its Chatsonic tool, a ChatGPT alternative.

Writesonic Pricing

Writesonic has a free plan and four paid plans: Chatsonic, Individual, Teams, and Enterprise. In this section, we will unpack each plan to help you compare what’s on offer:

Starting Price (Annual) Generations Free Version Templates Plagiarism Checker Art Generator Brand Voices Languages AI Models Integrations
Free Free 25 50+ 24+ Generative AI model Zapier
Chatsonic $12 per month Unlimited 24+ Generative AI model Zapier
Individual $16 per month Unlimited plus 50 credits for Advanced templates 50+ 1 24+ Generative AI model Zapier
Standard $79 per month Unlimited plus 1,000 credits for Advanced templates 50+ Unlimited 24+ Generative AI model Zapier
Enterprise Custom Custom 50+ Unlimited 24+ Generative AI model Zapier
Free

Writesonic’s Free plan gives you access to all of Writesonic features for limited runs. You’ll get 25 generations per month with the Standard templates and Chatsonic and a one-off allowance of 25 generations with the Advanced templates.

Chatsonic — $12 per month, billed annually

To access Chatsonic, opt for the Chatsonic-only plan, granting you unlimited generations on Writesonic’s chatbot. However, this plan doesn’t allow you to access the Standard or Advanced templates, so it isn’t suitable if you want to use the AI Article Writer, Rewriter, or SEO Checker features.

Individual — $16 per month, billed annually

Writesonic’s individual plan is suitable for solo content writers and freelancers who want to upscale their article writing and SEO research while also having access to Chatsonic.

You’ll get unlimited access to the Standard templates, including Article Writer 4.0, Article Rewriter, social media posts, Photosonic, and one brand voice. You’ll also get 50 credits per month to use the Advanced templates, which include Article Writer 6.0, SEO checks, fact checks, citation building, and Audiosonic.

Standard — $79 per month, billed annually

For agencies and businesses, the Teams plan offers space for up to 10 team members. You’ll get everything in the Individual plan, but you’ll receive 1,000 credits per month to spend on Advanced templates and unlimited brand voices.

Enterprise — Custom pricing

For teams with more than 10 members, you’ll need to contact Writesonic’s sales team to negotiate an Enterprise plan. This provides you with access to all of Writesonic’s features, a custom number of team members, and custom credits.

You’ll benefit from enhanced security and privacy with SSO/SAML login, tailored onboarding support, and ongoing customer support.

Writesonic Key Features

During our Writesonic review, we found it offers a range of features, mainly its article-writing tools and its chatbot. Here’s an overview of Writesonic’s core features:

AI Article WriterChatsonicContent RephraserSEO CheckerAudiosonic

Writesonic includes three different article writing tools to help boost your writing process: AI Article Writer 4.0, 5.0, and 6.0.

AI Article Writer 4.0 (AW4) is the most basic version of this AI writer feature, but you’ll have unlimited access to it on the Free, Individual, and Standard plans.

The other two versions cost credits, which you’ll have a limited amount of (and depend on the plan you select). AI Article Writer 4.0 is trained on GPT knowledge, which isn’t updated in real-time, so it could produce inaccuracies due to outdated information.

It could be risky to use this tool to write articles on new topics as you’ll need to fact-check its output. AI Article Writer 5.0 (AW5) can generate content based on uploaded documents and your selected references from the Internet.

Many of the best AI writer tools are trained on different AI models, so it’s not clear whether they work with real-time Google research. However, we found that AI Article Writer 6.0 (AW6) works with in-depth, real-time Google Search and uploaded documents.

It generates accurate and factual results while producing citations, and its copy is plagiarism-free. The only catch is that AW6 uses 20 credits per generation, which is a significant chunk of your credit budget on any plans below Enterprise.

Writesonic also offers a chatbot AI tool that’s connected to Google for the latest data. Dubbed “ChatGPT with superpowers,” Chatsonic can respond to text or voice input and produce output in either format.

If you’re familiar with the range of uses for chatbots, Chatsonic is no different. You can ask it to write pretty much anything, whether it’s social media posts, content for Google Ads, TikTok video scripts, make comparisons, or improve the existing text.

If you only want to use Chatsonic, there is a cheaper Chatsonic-only plan—but you won’t have access to its AI Article Writer or SEO Checker tools.

Writesonic’s Content Rephraser tool takes a chunk of text (up to 1200 characters), considers your brand voice, and then generates a paraphrased version of the text.

Writesonic’s AI tool does allow you to make tweaks, such as changing the tone or length, but it is far less hands-on than Quillbot‘s paraphrasing tool, which lets you manually edit each word.

Writesonic’s Article Writer feature heavily relies on SEO research and up-to-date Google research to generate high-quality articles.

Similar to copywriting tools like Scalenut, Writesonic provides a gamified SEO scoring system based on word count, SEO keywords, headings, images, and a range of other factors.

The tool also awards your copy a score out of 100, which can rise and fall according to your edits. This simplified method ensures tangible progress while optimizing your articles.

The SEO Checker tool is incorporated into the Article Writer feature, but it can also be accessed separately, allowing you to optimize new and old articles.

Writesonic’s text-to-speech (TTS) feature is beneficial for writers who want to create audiobooks or for marketing teams who want to create voice overs for ads. We found it really easy to use, and it creates human-sounding audio based on custom text.

We’ve tested similar tools and found it’s on par with ElevenLabs, the most natural-sounding AI voice generator. While Audiosonic doesn’t offer voice cloning like ElevenLabs, you do get a strong AI writer alongside an audio tool within one platform.

Writesonic Performance

During our Writesonic review, I was initially overwhelmed by its range of features, including three versions of its Article Writer and a range of templates split into Standard and Advanced.

When testing, there was no initial walkthrough, but the interface is relatively straightforward to navigate, with the typical left-hand sidebar that many AI content creation tools adopt.

In terms of AW6, I was impressed by the output and the level of detail it requested. It produced a fully legible, factual article based on real information. I chose to ask AW4 to write the same article, and it was also completely legitimate but lacked the level of depth provided by AW6.

For a higher degree of control over the output, I would have liked AW6 to request the style of the article I wanted it to produce, such as a listicle, review, best of, etc. What comforted me a lot when using AW6 was the fact that Writesonic’s AI model uses real-time information from Google for both the article’s content and its SEO research.

While I didn’t publish the article to test its true performance, I was impressed that it produced an article with a natural SEO score of 66 100 with no human edits.

The quality of the article was very high, and I loved that it provided footnotes and citations to show where it had sourced each piece of information so that I could check its legitimacy myself. A plus is that AW6 has a built-in plagiarism detector.

The only shortcoming for me is Writesonic’s credit system. AW6 is clearly the crown jewel of Writesonic, but it costs 20 credits per generation. For reference, on the Standard plan ($79 per month, billed annually), you can create 50 articles per month.

You’d still be able to use AW4 on an unlimited basis and AW5 for 5 credits per article, but you’ll miss out on Writesonic’s USP: a real-time Google search function.

Writesonic Integrations

While Writesonic doesn’t offer any built-in third-party integrations, it is compatible with Zapier, allowing you to set up your own automations between the apps you use, like Shopify, WordPress, Google Docs, and more.

If you don’t know how Zapier works, you can use it to create automated workflows between several applications without any code knowledge.

Writesonic Customer Reviews

Writesonic reviews are positive, with an average rating of 4.7/5 on G2 and 4.8/5 on Trustpilot. These scores are higher than those of other top paid and free AI content generators like Jasper (4.4) and Scalenut (4.2).

Many Writesonic reviews note that Writesonic’s compatibility with search engines is distinctive, making it truly effective in increasing productivity for writers who want to create SEO-friendly articles.

I recently discovered WriteSonic, and it has completely transformed the way I approach content creation. This innovative platform is a true game-changer for anyone looking to streamline the writing process without compromising on quality.

First and foremost, the user interface is intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy for even those with minimal technical expertise to dive right in. The platform offers a variety of writing tools, but where WriteSonic truly shines is in its AI-powered content generation feature.

— User review collected from G2

Reviewers also praise its TTS function, which is a valuable addition to content creation. Users can create audiobooks and voiceovers from the text generated with Article Writer.

One negative we kept noticing is users were dissatisfied with the value for money of the credit system, as it left no margin for error or improvement. If you’re dissatisfied with the AI-generated content, your credits will still be taken, which seems like an unfair system.

Writesonic vs Top Competitors

If you’re after a Writesonic alternative, here’s how it compares against some of the top AI writing software:

AI Writers Best For Starting Price (Annual) Free Version Built-In Plagiarism Checker Top 3 Features
Writesonic Real-time, factual information $12/month Free plan — 25 generations Chatbot, SEO checker, AI article writing
ClosersCopy Range of templates and automation opportunity $49.99/month 700+ templates, SEO audits, unlimited uses
Rytr Affordability $7.50/month Free Forever plan — 10,000 characters per month Improving copy, mind-mapping, keyword generation
Jasper AI High-quality copywriting $39/month 7-day free trial SurferSEO partnership, Chrome extension, brand voice
Copy AI Sales copy $36/month Free Forever plan — 2,000 words per run Following brand voice, social media integration, creating ad copy

Writesonic vs Jasper

Jasper is one of the best Writesonic alternatives. It’s renowned as one of the most proficient and widely used AI writing tools on the market. It’s an AI co-pilot that helps you with a range of writing formats but is predominantly focused on marketing content.

It’s intended for teams rather than hobbyists or individuals, and this is reflected in the price. Jasper’s plans start from $39 per month, and there’s no free plan available. While there is a 7-day free trial, you need to enter your credit card information before you begin.

Writesonic is also a very high-quality AI writing tool that can create SEO-friendly, factual content. The difference is in the pricing: Writesonic has a free plan, and its paid-for plans are cheaper.

It also offers built-in TTS, so it’s suitable for individuals and smaller teams in need of a cheaper AI writing assistant. It can also be transferred into audio for voiceovers or audiobooks. Jasper doesn’t offer this feature.

If you have a larger budget and AI images are more important to you, we recommend Jasper as a more suitable option, as its AI art generator is better developed than Writesonic’s.

For more information, read our full Jasper review.

Writesonic vs Rytr

Rytr is another option if you’re looking for an AI writer tool to generate content. It’s trained on GPT, so it’s on par with Writesonic’s AW4 and not AW6, which uses real-time research.

Rytr also offers a free plan, and its Unlimited plan is only $7.50 per month. The Unlimited plan offers unlimited generations and a tone match, so the text reads like your own writing. Writesonic offers a similar package with its Individual plan for $16 but with the addition of image generation and TTS.

If you’re looking for an affordable way to generate AI-written articles and don’t need the extra features offered by Writesonic (Photosonic, Audiosonic, and Chatsonic), then Rytr is adequate.

If you’re looking to use Writesonic’s extra features and benefit from AW6’s superior research skills, then we’d say it’s a worthwhile investment.

Writesonic vs ChatGPT

ChatGPT is the most well-known chatbot and perhaps the first AI tool to hit the mainstream. There’s huge potential in what ChatGPT can do, including translation, summarization, answering questions, and so on.

GPT knowledge has trained many other tools, including Writesonic, but some of these tools have become better suited for specific purposes than ChatGPT itself.

Due to the prevalence of more sophisticated AI writers, not many people use ChatGPT alone to create a blog article or for content creation in general. Writesonic’s Article Writer tools incorporate many more stages of content and SEO research, allowing you to enter more details before generating a result.

ChatGPT, on the other hand, is valuable for brainstorming, reformatting, or using as a sounding board during the ideation process. While it may generate keyword ideas, it cannot perform SEO research in real-time, as Writesonic claims to be able to.

How to Use Writesonic for Your Content Creation Process

Writesonic provides a range of features that will help you upscale your content writing and search engine optimization, including the ability to generate diverse content formats like landing pages and product descriptions.

In this walkthrough, we'll outline how to use Article Writer 6.0 (AW6) to create content that is SEO-friendly.

  1. Choose Your Topic

Open AW6 and enter the topic of your article. This doesn’t necessarily need to be the keyword you want to target, just the general subject matter you want to write about.

You can also select the country for which you want to rank and the language. You can choose whether you want to upload your own references or have Writesonic find references from the Internet.

You can then guide Writesonic’s writing strategy by selecting which top-ranking articles are the most relevant to your intended outcome.

    <strong>Choose Your Topic</strong>
  2. Configure Your Article Settings

For a relevant article that is optimized for high search engine results, you’ll also be asked to select your primary and secondary keywords, a fitting title, article length, brand voice, tone, and point of view. Hit “Generate,” and Writesonic will create your content.
    <strong>Configure Your Article Settings</strong>
  3. Edit Your Copy

Once you’ve set all your preferences and tweaked your outline so that it aligns with your intentions, you can then edit your article. Writesonic’s editor is user-friendly and allows you to directly type or swap sentences for AI-suggested improvements.

Another valuable feature is that it includes footnotes and a plagiarism checker, so you can manually double-check its sources before publishing.

    <strong>Edit Your Copy</strong>
  4. Check SEO Score

Even though Writesonic requests targeted keywords and competitors before generating the article, it allows you to consult the SEO checker and optimizer tool before publishing.

Writesonic’s SEO checker shows suggested keywords, word count, headings, and more. The score out of 100 will rise and fall according to how well you’ve optimized the text in line with the guidance.

During testing — without making any modifications to the article at all — it scored a promising initial SEO score of 66/100.

How to Choose the Best AI Tool

With numerous options available, searching for the right AI writing tool can be difficult. These are some of the factors that you should take into account:

SuitabilityAccuracy and PerformanceCustomizationEase of UseSecurityPrice and ScalabilityFeatures

Consider whether the tool meets your specific needs and objectives. Are you looking to create voice overs for ads, educational content, or YouTube? Or perhaps you’re looking to generate landing page copy or to create product descriptions that convert. Regardless, check the features on offer against your intended purpose.

Not all AI tools produce high-quality content as some can be unreliable. Secure a free trial or demo and read reviews to understand how other users feel about the tool’s performance.

Look for customization and integration options. Tools that work alongside your existing software can save you time and money. If you have coding experience, you can also check for API access so that you can use the output on your own apps or websites.

If an AI tool isn’t user-friendly, it’s going to be tough to maximize its potential. A free trial or plan can be a great chance to test the product before committing to a contract.

When working with sensitive information, security features are crucial with AI tools. Look out for robust security measures like data encryption, access control, and compliance with standards such as GDPR or HIPAA.

Does the tool offer good value for money, or is there a generous free plan available? It’s important to consider if it can grow with your demands over time without becoming too expensive.

Before making your final call, examine the specific features offered by each pricing tier of the platform to ensure it offers the tools you need to achieve your goals.
