What is Alien: Rogue Incursion?

Alien: Rogue Incursion is an ambitious-looking VR-only title set to be a potential showcase for the medium, following on from the beloved Alien: Isolation from 10 years prior. After several years of middling games in the franchise, such as Aliens: Fireteam Elite and Aliens: Dark Descent, Rogue Incursion looks to be more of a return to form for what fans wanted from the long-running horror series.

Rogue Incursion is being developed by Survios, which has a steady pedigree of VR games under its belt, some with notable franchises including The Walking Dead Onslaught and Creed: Rise to Glory. The studio has also made some original games, such as Battlewake, Raw Data, and Sprint Vector, all of which garnered mixed to decent reviews on platforms such as Steam. Without question, Alien: Rogue Incursion will be its biggest swing yet, but one it could deliver on come next month.

Alien: Rogue Incursion Release Date

Confirmed Release Date of December 19, 2024

The confirmed Alien: Rogue Incursion release date is December 19, 2024, on PC VR via Steam. This is the same date for the PSVR 2 version that is available for PS5 as well.

Originally, the game was set to debut on Meta Quest 3 alongside the other two versions; however, this variant of the game appears to have been delayed until 2025 (via Road to VR). It’s worth noting that the Alien: Rogue Incursion Meta Quest page still states a December 19, 2024 release date at this time.

That means you only really have to wait another month to get your hands on the hotly anticipated VR shooter, as the Alien: Rogue Incurison release date is just over five weeks away.

Alien: Rogue Incursion Pre-orders

Pre-orders Are Available on All Platforms

With an official release date announced and approaching, Alien: Rogue Incursion pre-orders are available on all supported platforms. You can currently pre-order the game to play the second it goes live on the PlayStation Store, Meta Store, and Steam.

The game’s official website lists an Alien: Rogue Incursion pre-order bonus in the form of exclusive in-game items based on the hit film Alien: Romulus with a weapon and armor skin based on the film. How this will translate into VR remains to be seen, but it’s a neat bonus for any superfans putting money down early.

Alien: Rogue Incursion Price

Confirmed Pricing of $39.99

The Alien: Rogue Incursion price is $39.99 across the PSVR 2, Meta Quest 3, and the Steam VR release, which is standard for high-profile VR games in 2025.

That’s similar to what we saw with Metro Awakening VR, which debuted earlier this month, too. It’s good to see VR games aren’t climbing up to the same eye-watering MSRPs that we’ve seen with some of the current-generation releases that are available for the $60-70 mark.

Alien: Rogue Incursion Platforms

Exclusive to VR

Alien: Rogue Incursion is exclusive to VR; however, you have a number of options for playing this immersive horror sim. As touched upon above, the game is coming to PS5 via PSVR 2, PC VR via Steam and is exclusive to Meta Quest 3 (and Meta Quest 3S) standalone headsets. That gives you quite a wealth of hardware choices to experience the title on, with the cheapest (and most straightforward) likely to be the latter of the three.

Now, in terms of raw graphical fidelity, PC VR will have the edge. However, this will depend on which VR headset you choose, as well as your machine’s CPU and GPU. While the full Alien: Rogue Incursion system requirements are not listed, the Steam page denotes the Valve Index, Meta Rift S, as well as the Quest 2 and Quest 3, the two latter devices harnessing the power of a PC instead of being standalone.

Alien: Rogue Incursion Trailers

A Total of Five Trailers Have Been Released So Far

Developer and publisher Survios has not been shy about sharing Alien: Rogue Incursion trailers with fans, as there are a total of five since the game was officially unveiled six months ago. The aptly titled “Announcement Video” is 50 seconds long and merely confirms that the world of Alien will be getting the VR treatment with little shown aside from a series of logos, a rough release window of “Holiday 2024” and the platforms.

Then, around a month later, in May 2024, we received the second Alien: Rogue Incursion trailer dubbed “First Look” which premiered at Sony’s State of Play. In just under a minute, we’re shown the first traces of Alien: Rogue Incursion gameplay, looking similar to that of the fan-favorite Alien: Isolation with its tense horror-tinged stealth atmosphere. The video ends with a brutal slice from a Xenomorph appearing from the darkness.

The third trailer focuses on the main Alien: Rogue Incursion character, Zula Hendricks, who is a “fearless ex-colonial marine turned ultimate Xenomorph hunter”. The 90-second trailer wastes no time in showing her skill set, as we see from first person shooter combat with iconic weapons as seen in the movies. It’s not quite the tense hide-and-seek of Alien: Isolation, but it still seems very tense.

What would Alien be without the Xenomorphs? Pretty boring, right? Well, Survios addressed the titular villains in their own dedicated trailer. At less than a minute long, it doesn’t show much, but we see the Xenos leap around in the darkness; Face Huggers also make a welcome return as well, adding an extra layer of horror into the mix.

The final Alien: Rogue Incursion trailer released is the “Weapons & Gear” trailer, which delivers what you would expect. In 59 seconds, we see the Motion Tracker in action, but also more offensive options from the armory as well, such as the 357 “Heavy Bore” revolver, a 12 gauge riot shotgun, and the Pulse Rifle triumphantly translated into VR. We are hopeful the game delicately balances your power level, maintaining the Xenomorphs’ threat while giving you some means to fight back.

Below is the first extended look at gameplay showcasing the environment, combat, virtual on-body inventory, and xenomorphs.

The Bottom Line

Alien: Rogue Incursion has all the makings of an exciting game in the long-running multimedia franchise. Coming off of the beloved Alien: Romulus movie and embodying the spirit of Alien: Isolation, a lot is riding on this VR-exclusive when it debuts at the end of the year.

Given the developer’s track record, signs are positive of a high-quality experience that fully lives up to the license and doesn’t become another ill-fated shooter in the vein of Aliens: Colonial Marines. However, we won’t know until we go hands-on with our full review towards the end of December 2024.
