A Full Thryv Review for 2024: The Good and the Bad

Why Trust Techopedia
Our Verdict

Thryv provides a simple CRM while helping boost your online presence.

Thryv is a slightly difference breed when compared with other CRM tools that I’ve reviewed.

If you’re looking for a hybrid business management system that incorporates CRM with other valuable tools, such as social media management, a professional website, marketing tools, and a payment processing portal, Thryv could be right up your alley.

With three pricing tiers, Thryv is particularly suited for growing businesses that need an all-around business management system rather than a super-advanced dedicated CRM. It’s ideal for those who want to market to local audiences and who want to establish an online presence to forge stronger customer relationships.

If you are an established, larger business or have more advanced, sales-oriented CRM needs such as lead management and deal tracking – I’d recommend opting for a more heavyweight CRM tool.

Pros

  • All-in-one solution, you don’t need multiple software platforms
  • Offers social media management, which is rare for CRM
  • Professional website hosting
  • Supports local marketing efforts
  • Introducing more AI features for saving time on content creation

Cons

  • Not a dedicated CRM system, fewer advanced features than competitors
  • Priced per location; can work out more expensive than ‘per user’ pricing
  • No free forever plan

In this Thryv review, I’ll explore this all-in-one business management platform that offers CRM features, invoicing and accounting, and a secure client portal.

My Thryv CRM review explores its features, pricing, and how it compares to other CRMs I’ve tested to help you decide whether Thryv is the right fit for your small business or if you should consider another of the best CRM platforms on the market.

Business Center Plus - $228 per month, per location

Thryv’s Business Center’s first plan is Plus, which provides a robust, consolidated business management solution for a range of business operations.

This includes CRM, social media management, a client portal, online listing tracking, invoicing, payment processing, and more. This plan offers 20GB file storage plus up to 5,000 inclusive email and SMS marketing messages to help you engage with your customer base.

Business Center Professional - $382 per month, per location

Thryv Business Center’s second plan is called Professional.

In addition to everything offered in the Plus plan, Professional offers a 50 GB file storage capacity and 10,000 email and SMS marketing messages. To enhance its social media management offering, the Professional plan includes an AI-powered social caption generator.

With the Professional plan, Thryv offers a professional website of up to 15 pages to help you market your small business online more effectively. This feature can be a great addition to your business, especially if you still need a website or are looking to upgrade your existing site.

Ultimate - $533 per month, per location

Thryv Business Center’s most premium plan is called Ultimate. In addition to everything in the Professional plan, this top tier offers fully Thryv-generated social content to speed up the time-consuming process of social media posting. It also provides unlimited file storage and unlimited SMS and email marketing messages, which offers plenty of room for growth for larger teams.

Thryv Key Features

Thryv is not primarily a dedicated CRM system, even though it includes CRM features within its larger system. In this section, we will take a closer look at Thryv Business Center as a whole, including its CRM features.

CRMCalendar SchedulingSocial Media ManagementEstimates and Invoices

CRM

The term CRM, in the context of Thryv, refers to the contact management side of the platform. For other platforms, CRM can refer to a sales pipeline, but here, we are talking about a centralized place to find all of your customer relationships. You can easily access all of your interactions with them and even create a client portal for them to log into themselves to book appointments and make payments.

Calendar Scheduling

One interactive feature on offer with Thryv is an appointment scheduling tool that allows your customers the power to make appointments without having to pick up the phone. You can set automatic reminders to reduce the frequency of no-shows, plus nudge customers to rebook if they haven’t.

This feature also allows customers to cancel or reschedule their appointments without having to get in touch, which also saves time spent on taking phone calls.

Social Media Management

Along with its CRM features, Thryv also offers a social media management tool specifically designed for small businesses. Depending on which plan you select, this tool has varying ranges of automation.

The Professional and Ultimate plans allow you to post AI-generated social media captions automatically formatted for each platform. It also supports scheduling posts and managing direct messages from customers with one unified inbox. So you don’t have to spend hours on each social media platform to stay connected to your audience.

Estimates and Invoices

Thryv also allows you to send quotes and invoices to customers from within its client portal. You can send estimates and be notified when approved, while customers can quickly pay online. You can also create, send, and manage invoices, which will be stored in the portal for your customers to view.

As of the latest update in July 2024, you can now add tips, fees, and surcharges to your invoices to deliver a complete receipt to customers. This helps your customers to know exactly what they are paying for, and simplifies accounting on your end.

AI Service Descriptions

Another July 2024 update to Thryv’s business management portal automates the process of creating AI-generated personalized descriptions of your products and services based on your instructions. Don’t worry about sounding too generic. The descriptions are fully editable before publishing, so you can apply as many tweaks as you want to ensure they sound on-brand.

Thryv Integrations

It’s essential to check which apps your chosen CRM integrates with before signing up because life is much easier when your software works together. Thryv’s marketplace offers around 25 third-party integrations, which is less than some of the leading competitors.

For reference, monday.com offers 200+, while Salesforce boasts over 1,000. Thryv is compatible with payment processing systems such as Stripe, Clover, PayPal, and Square. Additionally, it works with Shopify, MailChimp, and Zapier.

Thryv vs Top Competitors

So, I’ve established that Thryv provides an all-in-one business management solution. But how does it compare to other CRM systems? Below, I’ll compare Thryv with some of the top CRM systems on the market.

Thryv vs Monday CRM

Thryv Business Center and monday.com’s Sales CRM are different tools catering to distinct business needs. Thryv primarily focuses on helping small businesses manage their online presence and local marketing efforts, while monday.com’s Sales CRM is a dedicated CRM for sales teams to manage leads, deals, pipelines, and customer interactions.

In essence, Thryv software bundles CRM with online marketing tools that benefit local businesses, while Monday Sales CRM is a robust CRM platform tailored for efficient sales pipeline management. The choice depends on whether your priority is local presence or sales productivity enhancement.

Thryv vs Salesforce

Thryv focuses on establishing and managing a business’s online presence and local marketing efforts. It offers basic CRM tools, social media management, invoicing, and payment processing. Thryv’s pricing structure is simple, and it offers three plans with features and price points that cater to small businesses’ needs.

On the other hand, Salesforce is a powerful, enterprise-level CRM platform that streamlines and optimizes sales, marketing, and customer service processes. It offers advanced CRM capabilities, automation tools, and integrations with other business systems. Salesforce is highly customizable and scalable, making it suitable for larger businesses with complex requirements. However, its pricing can be more expensive, especially for larger teams.

Thryv vs HubSpot

Thryv Business Center is an ideal CRM for small businesses that need an easy-to-use, all-encompassing solution to establish and manage their online presence, handle basic marketing and customer management tasks, and accept online payments.

HubSpot, on the other hand, is better suited for businesses that focus on inbound marketing, lead nurturing, and sales pipeline optimization. It offers more advanced and scalable tools for content creation, campaign management, sales automation, and data analysis, making it a better fit for growing companies with more complex marketing and sales requirements.

Thryv Customer Reviews

Thryv attracts a mixed bag of customer reviews online. Its Trustpilot rating is a low 2.5/5, with the main complaints relating to the platform’s long contract length of six months.

Many reviewers are disgruntled with the billing process, claiming they were unaware of signing up with Thryv and were finding it difficult to break the contract. Some Thryv reviews also state dissatisfaction with its marketing tools.

However, all of the reviews note that it has exceptional customer service.

“Working with Thryv has been a truly remarkable experience. I already had a decent knowledge base of SEO, websites, and target marketing, but I was surprised at how much I learned from Thryv.”

Many users also reported how simple it was to have all of their business management activities stored in the Thryv dashboard.

What is Thryv Good for?

While it isn’t your standard CRM system, Thryv offers a unique set of features that can help small businesses establish and boost their online presence. It’s not easy to find a CRM system that includes website creation and social media management tools, so this could be a significant selling point for some businesses.

In addition to this, it also supports invoicing and payment processing with the client portal.

I’d say Thryv is a good option for smaller businesses looking for a comprehensive system to help with CRM, marketing, and payments – as this platform neatly houses all of these features under one roof.

Having just one tool for all of these uses can be beneficial, as it’s more straightforward with billing and helps you familiarize yourself with the platform. That being said, if you’re looking for an in-depth CRM tool, Thryv may not be the best option since it’s more of a jack-of-all-trades tool and does miss some more sales-oriented features.

Methodology

How We Review And Test CRM Software

We base our recommendations on first-hand testing. All the CRM Software products we feature, have been tested based on the following criteria:

  • Ease of Use: We assess the CRM service’s overall UX across platforms. Some CRM services we’ve used have a learning curve, so we also factor in their online documentation.
  • Functionality: We consider the depth of features on offer, including contact, lead, and pipeline management, marketing capabilities, and the depth of reporting on offer.
  • Integrations: We assess the CRM platform’s ability to integrate with essential everyday tools like email marketing services, accounting software, and ERPs, for example.
  • Security and Compliance: We look for features like data encryption, role-based access controls, GDPR compliance, and industry-specific regulations like HIPAA.
  • Customization: We check for features like custom fields, workflows, and automation rules, to assess whether the platform can be tailored to specific needs and industries.
  • Value for Money: We weigh the feature-to-price value on offer and consider whether the provider offers affordable scalability.
  • Mobile Accessibility: To ensure sales reps and managers can use the CRM on the go, we test the mobile apps available and evaluate their functionality.
  • Reputation: We don’t waste our time with tools that don’t have a good reputation. We note what other users have to say to ensure we offer full insight into the tools we feature.

How to Choose the Best CRM Solution

If you’re at the beginning of your search for the perfect CRM solution, there are several factors you’ll need to consider before making your decision.

PriceFeaturesScalabilityEase of useIntegrationsCustomer support

As with any business decision, price is imperative. You should ensure that your chosen plan is within your budget and offers adequate functionality so that you won’t have to pay for additional software to compensate for missing features.

Remember that some CRM providers may require a minimum contract length, so consider that when projecting your total spend.

Since all CRM platforms offer different features, you should confirm which features are most important for your business and thoroughly research the providers before committing to one. If there are multiple tiers, ensure that the features you’re set on are included in the plan you intend to sign up for.

Whether you’re a growing SMB or an established enterprise, most companies anticipate growth. When on the lookout for a CRM system, check for scalability and how much this will cost; otherwise, you could face issues further down the line if you outgrow your plan.

If your CRM platform has a steep learning curve, you may not be able to reach your potential. We’d recommend opting for software that offers the opportunity to try before you buy to be sure you get on well with it.

This is especially important if you also onboard team members to use the software. A complicated system will often not be used effectively and can often create more confusion than clarity.

Another point to consider is whether your chosen CRM software will integrate with your existing software stack. Many leading CRM platforms integrate with accounting and invoicing tools and marketing tools. You’ll be able to work more seamlessly across platforms when they are compatible, so it is worth checking out before making your final call.

If you run into trouble with your CRM and need to talk to an expert, you want to be sure they are on hand. While some providers offer 24/7 telephone support or live chat, others offer a knowledge hub or community forum. If you have strong preferences, it’s wise to check which support options your chosen provider offers.
