Definition - What does Hard Drive Shredder mean?

A hard drive shredder is a machine designed to effectively destroy traditional rotational hard drives and solid-state hard drives. Hard drive shredders are expected to meet certain outcomes in terms of the scale of destruction, down to the individual particle.

Techopedia explains Hard Drive Shredder

For large-scale destruction of electronic data, hard drive shredders may be used as an alternative to digital wiping or cleansing of hard drive components, or to "degaussing" or the use of magnet technologies to try to scramble the data resident on a drive. In general, hard drive shredding is a method that requires greater physical resources and more care to prevent hazardous electronic wastes.
