Electronic business extensible markup language (ebXML) is an extensible markup language used to perform electronic business. EbXML is pronounced letter by letter (e-b-x-m-l), as if simply spelling it. OASIS and UN/CEFACT attempt to offer an XML-based infrastructure employed in an open development environment, so they sponsored ebXML, which currently comprises a huge collection of XML-based metrics. This collection allows for the interoperable, safe and reliable use of electronic business information all over the world. This term is also known as e-business XML.

Techopedia explains Electronic Business Extensible Markup Language (ebXML)

The United Nations Body for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business Information Standards (UN/CEFACT) and the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) are responsible for ebXML. They consider ebXML their joint initiative project. This project is one of the largest international IT projects, which includes 75 companies working collaboratively. Major IT vendors and trade associations are deeply involved throughout the world in the development and deployment of this e-business platform.

EbXML is highly associated with the Internet's existing standards such as HTTP, TCP/IP, MIME, SMTP, FTP, UML and XML. Implementation and deployment of this language has no constraints. In fact, all computing platforms are well integrated with ebXML components. Typically, international projects emphasize the employment of existing standards. Thus, ebXML does not lose the advantage of being affordable, easy to find and apply.
