AMIBIOS is a basic input/output system (BIOS) chip developed and branded by American Megatrends Inc. (AMI). It is used on a variety of motherboards, including the AMI proprietary version. The AMIBIOS chip is the most commonly installed BIOS chip in modern PC computing.
When booting a computer, the AMIBIOS name flashes in the lower left-hand corner of the PC display screen. This is known as an ID string, where an AMIBIOS chip is the BIOS chip installed on the motherboard. Its primary function is starting and loading the operating system (OS).
AMIBIOS8, the most current version, is built on Visual eBIOS (VeB). All versions are sold to original equipment manufacturers (OEM), rather than end users.
