Why Trust Techopedia

What Does Anonymous Post Mean?

An anonymous post is when a user posts something on an electronic public discussion forum anonymously or under a pseudonym. Anonymous posts are only allowed when users are not required to register for the forum. Many discussion forums flourish as a result of user anonymity, which promotes openness and frank electronic discussion, especially in instances where the discussion points are controversial or socially taboo.

Techopedia Explains Anonymous Post

Anonymous posts are often the preferred method for posting comments on Internet forums or message boards, electronic bulletin boards, blogs or news stories that invite public comments.

In more severe cases, anonymous posters can be banned from a website or even be reported to the authorities for a cybercrime should any comments be deemed harassment or include sexually explicit comments. Website managers can often obtain posters’ IP addresses even when posters are not required to register for the forum.
