MicroSD, MiniSD and SD are industry standard storage platforms governed by the Secure Digital Association (SD Association). A number of different hardware manufacturers have adopted this standard as a non-volatile data storage medium.

Techopedia Explains Micro Secure Digital Slot

MicroSD slots are built for portable devices that require storage, such as mobile phones, tablets and digital cameras. Each device is built with a clearly marked MicroSD card insertion slot that is typically protected by a flexible cover.

Many personal computers (PC) and laptops are built with SD card slots, but with larger devices, a slot only accepts an SD card, which is the largest type of card in the series. In contrast, most mobile devices only use MicroSD and have dedicated MicroSD slots.
