What Does Moblog Mean?

A moblog is the act of posting a blog post through a mobile device, usually a cellphone. It can be created from pure text, images, videos, audio or a combination of such data.

A moblog is typically sent either through a dedicated application installed in a cellphone or through a Web-based application. Since many moblogging platforms focus on images or videos, a smartphone with a built-in camera is the moblogger’s device of choice.

This term is also know as mobile blogging, but moblog is a shortened form.

Techopedia Explains Moblog

Moblogging is supported by a number of platforms. Some platforms are purely dedicated to moblogs, while others are regular blogging platforms providing support for moblogging.

Some of the many platforms devoted to accepting short moblogs are:

  • Jaiku.com
  • BusyThumbs
  • Moblog.net
  • MobyPicture
  • NowThen
  • Utterz
  • Treemo
  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Tumblr

Some of these, such as Twitter, are built primarily for pure text micro blog posts. Others, like MobyPicture, are focused on photos, video and audio blog posts.

All the major blogging platforms accept moblogs. These include WordPress, Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad and Microsoft Live Spaces.
