Techopedia Explains Network Discovery

A device with network discovery can set its network availability status to either on or off. When the device is turned off, it cannot be seen or connect with other devices. When the device status is set to on, it is visible to other devices and they can send it connectivity or data transfer requests.

In one form of network discovery, network services can be selectively turned off or on depending upon the requirements.
