Definition - What does VPN Client mean?

A VPN client is an end device, software or user that is seeking connection, network or data services from a VPN.

It is part of the VPN infrastructure and is the end recipient of VPN services.

Techopedia explains VPN Client

A VPN client can be a standalone purpose-built device or a standard computing or networking device installed and configured with VPN client software.

Typically, a VPN client first connects to a VPN server before it can make use of the VPN services. After providing user credentials and authentication, the VPN client is connected to the VPN. Some organizations provide a purpose-built VPN client that is a hardware device preinstalled with VPN software.
