Computational mathematics involves areas of mathematical work that focus on the application of math to computing technologies. Because so much of the programming and hardware world depends on mathematical operations, there are seemingly infinite ways to apply computational mathematics to computer science.

One of the most basic examples of the power of computational mathematics is the use of logic gates, which are resident on any microprocessor. The logic gates are the computer’s operational pathways that direct circuit board activity and provide for all computation based on inputs. Mathematical models applied to logic gates can be seen as a primary example of computational mathematics, and in many other ways, scientists also apply mathematical concepts to computer science. Specific methodologies include stochastic methods and models, symbolic computation, encryption modeling and much more. Those involved in computational mathematics will generally be using mathematical concepts to design software and technology products.
