Cell Broadcast is a
type of text message similar to an SMS message that can be sent to all cell phone users
in a given area. The typical use for these kinds of messages is to send
emergency alerts to mobile users. Cell Broadcasts are part of the GSM standard.


Cell Broadcast was formerly known as Short Message Service-Cell Broadcast (SMS-CB).

Cell Broadcast is a method for sending many messages to people on their cell phones
in an area. This is usually used as a form of emergency broadcast, sending messages
about severe weather, missing children or potential terrorist activity. Cell Broadcast is part of
the GSM standard set by the ETSI GSM committee. Cell Broadcast is a one-to-many
broadcast medium and can be more reliable, even when cell networks crash due to
overload in emergency situations.
