The “double chance” bet mostly applies to soccer betting and involves you betting on two of three possible outcomes in a game. As it is an easy wager to understand, it’s one of the most popular game props in soccer betting.
What is a Double Chance Bet?
A double chance bet is when you bet on two of the three possible outcomes, usually in a soccer game:
- Team A wins
- Team B wins
- Draw
By betting on two of three outcomes, you are doubling your chances of a win – hence the name double chance bet.
It offers a safer (but more expensive) way to wager on a particular outcome. The risk is reduced but so are the payouts.
How Does Double Chance Betting Work?
At most of the best online sportsbooks, the double chance option can be found in “game props” or similar within the betting markets for a given soccer match.
The same goes for other sports that includes a tie as a potential outcome.
Example Double Chance Bet
As Euro 2024 has kicked off, let’s use an upcoming game to show you how a double chance bet would work. We’ll use BetOnline, one of the top Euro betting sites, as an example.
For the upcoming England vs Slovenia game, BetOnline is offering the following odds for a double chance bet:
As mentioned, in a double chance bet you wager on two of three possible outcomes.
The odds reflect what the sportsbook thinks is most likely to happen. You can read our guide to what plus and minus mean in betting if you are unsure how the odds work.
This is how it would work in our example:
- If you bet England or Draw (-1500), you win the bet if England wins or it ends in a draw.
- If you bet England or Slovenia (-520), you win the bet if either team wins. If it’s a draw, you lose the bet.
- If you bet Slovenia or Draw (+215), you win the bet if Slovenia wins or it ends in a draw.
In this game, England is a clear favorite so betting the double chance of England to win or a draw would be expensive. The odds of -1500 mean that a $150 bet would pay out $160 for just $10 profit.
As we said earlier, one of the downsides of the double chance bet is reduced payouts.
How to Place Double Chance Bets
Placing a double chance bet is simple, since most top soccer betting sites offer this option. You will usually find it within a soccer game’s “props” section or within the game outcome options.
- Go to BetOnline and create an account if you don’t have one already.
- Navigate to the sportsbook and find “Game Props” in the navigation menu.
- Choose a game to bet on and open the betting options.
- Scroll to find “Double Chance” from the options and select one of the three choices.
- Enter the amount you want to bet and place your bet.
