How to Sign Out of One Google Account on Any Device: A Step-by-Step Guide

Why Trust Techopedia

Google hasn’t made it easy to sign out of a single Google account on a device while staying logged in to your other accounts. This design oversight has required users to take advantage of a workaround to make it work, which we’ve highlighted below.

Luckily, that’s only the case when using a PC. It’s a bit simpler if you’re using an iOS or Android device.

Here’s how it’s done.

Key Takeaways

  • Google no longer provides an option to sign out of individual accounts directly, but you can use the “Manage Your Google Account” feature to sign out of specific sessions.
  • Signing out of one Google account on a PC involves managing account sessions, while on mobile devices, you can simply remove the account from the device settings.
  • It’s important to manage your Google account sessions to ensure that you are logged out of any devices you no longer use to maintain account security.
  • The steps to sign out of one Google account without affecting the others are consistent across various operating systems and browsers.
  • You can sign out of Google accounts from any device, making it convenient to manage your account sessions remotely.

How to Sign Out of One Google Account on a PC Using Windows, Mac, or Linux

Back in the day, Google had a very simple solution for logging out of a single Google account. When this was true, Google provided a single Sign out of account button that you could click. This would then sign you out of the account you were currently logged in to.

For some unknown reason, Google changed that. Now, you’ll only see a Sign out of all accounts button.

For example:

Sign out of all accounts option

We’re unsure why Google made this change. However, we’ve found a slick workaround that will let you sign out of a single Google account while staying logged in to the others. Here’s how to sign out of just one Google account.

  1. Open a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.) on your PC (Windows, Mac, or Linux). This process is the same regardless of PC type or browser.
  2. Next, go to any Google service (i.e. Gmail, Docs, etc.).
  3. Now, click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the screen, and then click Manage Your Google Account from the menu that appears.
  4. A new tab will appear and you’ll be in your Google account space. Click the Security option in the left-hand pane.
  5. Scroll down to the Your devices group and click Manage all devices.

Google records each account as a “Session.” Unfortunately, Google only tells you what your current session is, which is the Google account you’re currently logged in to. For other sessions (or Google accounts), you’ll need to remember the login date yourself.

  6. Click the right arrow next to that session.
  7. On the next screen, click Sign out.

A pop-up will appear, letting you know that this will remove access to your Google account.

  8. Click Sign out.

You’ve now signed out of just that specific Google account. However, it’s possible that some apps may still have access if you’ve given any third-party apps permission and they are installed on your device.

If you want to prevent that from happening, you’ll need to manage app access.

How to Sign Out of One Google Account on Android

To sign out of one Google account on Android, you’ll need to remove it from the device. This does not delete the account. It just signs you out. You can sign in again at any time.

    1. Open the Settings app.
    2. Tap Accounts and backup.
    3. Tap Manage accounts.
    4. You’ll now see a list of your Google accounts. Tap the one you would like to sign out of.
    5. On the next screen, tap Remove account.
    6. You’ll see a warning stating that removing the account will delete its messages, contacts, and other data from the device. Tap Remove account.

You’re not signed out of the Google Account.

How to Sign Out of One Google Account on iOS

To sign out of one Google account on iOS, you’ll need to remove it from the device. Note that this does not delete the account–it simply signs you out. You can sign in again at any time.

    1. Open Gmail (or any Google app) on your iOS device and tap your profile picture in the top-right corner of the screen.
    2. Tap Manage accounts on this device at the bottom of the screen.
    3. Next, find the account you want to sign out of and tap Remove from this device under it.
    4. A pop-up will appear with a warning that the account and any unsaved data will be removed from the device. Tap Remove.

You’re now signed out of that Google account on your iOS device.

How to Sign Out of One Google Account via Web Browser Staying Logged in With Other Accounts

The process for signing out of one Google account while staying logged in to others via a web browser is identical to signing out on a PC using Windows, Mac, or Linux. Although Google no longer offers a straightforward “Sign out of account” button for individual accounts, you can still achieve this by managing your Google account sessions.

Here’s a quick recap of the steps:

    1. Open a web browser on your PC (Windows, Mac, or Linux).
    2. Go to any Google service (e.g., Gmail, Docs).
    3. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
    4. Select Manage Your Google Account from the menu that appears.
    5. In the new tab, click the Security option in the left-hand pane.
    6. Scroll down to the Your devices group and click Manage all devices.
    7. Identify the session associated with the account you want to sign out of and click the right arrow next to it.
    8. Click Sign out on the next screen.
    9. Confirm the sign-out in the pop-up window.

Following these steps will let you sign out of a specific Google account while remaining logged in to others.

How to Sign Out of One Google Account on All Devices

To sign out of one Google account on all of the devices that it’s currently logged in to, you’ll need to access a Google account from one of the devices, click the Security tab > Manage all devices that we’ve mentioned several times earlier.

Here, you’ll see all of your logged in Accounts and on which devices. Unfortunately, Google doesn’t tell you which “session” is connected to which account, so you’ll just have to remember.

    Your account on multiple devices

Choose which session on which device you would like to log out of, and repeat the process until you’ve logged out of every device.

How to Sign out of One Google Account From Another Computer

If you need to sign out of a Google account from another computer, you can follow the same steps outlined in the “How to Sign Out of One Google Account on a PC Using Windows, Mac, or Linux” section. Simply open a web browser on the other computer, go to a Google service, and follow the steps to manage your Google account sessions and sign out of the desired account.

Alternatively, you can sign in to your Google account on the other computer, repeat the same steps to manage your account, and sign out. After completing the sign-out process on the other computer, make sure you sign out of the Google account on the current device.

    The Bottom Line

You can easily sign out of a single Google account while remaining logged in to the others on your iOS or Android device. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case with PC, as Google has made users take advantage of a workaround to sign out of a single account.

Whether by design or just an oversight, it’s a bit frustrating for users. Regardless, where there’s a will, there’s a way, and Techopedia helped you get it done.
