Nintendo’s first Indie World Showcase of 2024 brought a plethora of announcements in just about 20 minutes, highlighting the diverse array of indie games heading to the Nintendo Switch.
Amid the excitement, fans noticed notable absences. Despite recent listings on various rating boards, there was no sign of “Hollow Knight: Silksong,” leaving its release date in mystery.
Additionally, the absence of any familiar Nintendo franchises, which sometimes find their way into the hands of external indie developers elsewhere, raised eyebrows among enthusiasts.
Still, Switch gamers can look forward to a lot of indie goodness in 2024. From cute cat adventures to challenging platformers, here’s a roundup of what was unveiled.
Yars Rising
Atari made a splash with “Yars Rising,” a side-scrolling run-and-gun platformer reminiscent of classics like Metroid and Mega Man. Meanwhile, Thunderful revealed “Steamworld Heist II,” promising the same turn-based strategy gameplay in a lush tropical setting, set for release on August 8.
Little Kitty, Big City
For cat enthusiasts, “Little Kitty, Big City” offers a charming exploration of a quirky neighborhood, set to launch on May 9. And fans of feline adventures will have even more to enjoy with the announcement of “Cat Quest III,” an action RPG sequel set in a vast open world.
Stich
There’s plenty of stuff to look forward to for puzzle enthusiasts, too. “Stich” brings the art of embroidery to gaming, offering a relaxing experience originally designed for mobile devices.
Schim
As for those seeking platforming challenges, “Schim” and “Bzzzt” are both slated for Switch releases this summer.
Lorelei and the Laser Eyes
On the adventure front, “Lorelei and the Laser Eyes,” developed by Stray publisher Annapurna Interactive, presents an intriguing mix of action and puzzle-solving set in a mysterious European setting, while “Another Crab’s Treasure” dives into aquatic exploration with a soulslike twist.
Duck Detective: The Secret Salami
