Amazon is expected to release its next entry-level Kindle on October 1st, as spotted by a Reddit user on a Spanish retail website.

The new Kindle reportedly features a six-inch, 300PPI  e-paper display with improved contrast and approximately 25% brighter illumination than the previous entry-level Kindle, which Amazon released in 2022.

The listing on the Spanish website also suggests that the device will come with 16GB of storage and offer up to eight weeks of battery life on a full charge. It charges through USB-C and is also expected to include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and system-wide dark mode support.

There is no confirmation yet on whether the new Kindle will use the improved E INK Carta 1200 e-paper display; however, Amazon did use this technology in the 11th-gen Kindle Paperwhite, which was released in 2021. Therefore, it’s likely that the new Kindle will be equipped with it as well. Users will also have at least two color options to choose from – the standard black and a new matcha green.

The 2024 version of the entry-level Kindle will face direct competition from other entry-level e-readers, such as the Kobo Clara Color, which also offers 16GB of storage and centers on a six-inch display with 300PPI for black-and-white content and 150PPI  for color content. Another competitor is Barnes & Noble’s  Nook GlowLight 4 Plus, which comes with a larger 7.8-inch screen that offers a 300PPI  resolution. Additionally, the Nook boasts 32GB of storage and IPX7 water resistance.

The Kobo Clara Color is priced at $150, while the Nook GlowLight 4 Plus is available for $200.

That said, the price of the new Kindle is listed at €120 on the Spanish retail website. However, there is no clarification on whether this price is with or without ads, as the 11th-gen Kindle was available in two pricing options – $100 with ads on the lock screen and $120 without.
