Amazon just unveiled X-Ray Recaps, a new Prime Video feature that uses generative AI to provide personalized summaries of shows and episodes.
You are obviously not alone when it comes to forgetting what went down in the last season after a new one arrives. But now instead of desperately scouring the internet for context, X-Ray Recaps aims to get you quickly up to speed without ever having to leave the app.
The feature taps into Amazon Bedrock – an AWS service designed to help clients build generative AI applications – combined with custom models built using SageMaker. The AI analyzes various video scenes, dialogue, and subtitles in order to generate fresh summaries tailored to exactly where you’re at in the story.
Amazon says the recaps focus on hitting the high notes – key events, conversations, places, times, and any other crucial story details.
As for spoilers, the company says it’s deployed “guardrails” to avoid dropping any, so you won’t have to worry about those. The feature is contextually aware too, meaning it knows where you’ve watched the show until.
To access the recaps, you’ll be able to fire them up from the show’s main details page on Prime Video or trigger them during playback through the X-Ray menu. From there, you can choose between getting a summary of just the current episode, a recap for the full season, or catching up on the events of a previous season.
The new feature builds on Prime Video’s existing X-Ray capabilities, which already let viewers access trivia, cast info, production details, and more about whatever they’re watching. But now instead of just supplemental content, this new feature lets X-Ray dynamically generate fresh material on the fly.
