The entire staff of Annapurna Interactive, the video-game publishing arm of Annapurna studio, has reportedly resigned en masse.

Per Bloomberg, the decision to resign followed months of negotiations between Annapurna Interactive President Nathan Gary and Founder Megan Ellison to split off the division as an independent entity. When the talks failed to reach a satisfactory agreement, Gary and roughly 24 other staff members decided to walk away from the company.

In a joint statement to Bloomberg, Gary and his team explained the difficult decision, stating, “This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make, and we did not take this action lightly.”

Founded in 2016 by Megan Ellison, Annapurna Interactive quickly established itself as one of the leading publishers of indie games. The division’s portfolio includes popular indie titles such as Stray, Outer Wilds, Cocoon and its recently released titles the Lorelei and the Laser Eyes.

Megan Ellison, in a statement to Bloomberg, reassured developers that the company would continue supporting its existing slate of games, highlighting that they remain committed to a broader vision of integrating film, TV, and gaming.

Bloomberg says Hector Sanchez, a co-founder of Annapurna Interactive will take over as the new president. Sanchez has reportedly informed developers that all existing contracts will be honored and that new staff will be hired to replace those who resigned.

The sudden departure of the entire Annapurna Interactive team has raised questions about the future of the company’s video game publishing operations.

While Ellison’s statement may have somewhat calmed nerves, the loss of key personnel could have negative implications for the company’s ability to continue supporting its partners and delivering high-quality games.
