Apple Music comes to Rivian EVs

Why Trust Techopedia
Key Takeaways

  • Rivian has partnered with Apple Music to bring the music streaming app to all Rivian EVs.
  • A Connect+ subscription is needed alongside a subscription to Apple Music.
  • Rivian is offering new customers a three-month free trial of Apple Music via the Rivian app.

Apple Music is rolling out to all Rivian EVs via the company’s latest software update, 2024.27.

Rivian owners will be able to stream Apple Music through the dashboard interface, while those with the Premium Audio sound system option can stream Apple Music in Spatial Audio.

For unlimited internet connectivity and Apple Music membership, a Connect+ subscription at $15 a month or $149 a year is needed. Rivian is offering all customers a two-month free trial of Connect+ alongside a 90-day free subscription to Apple Music (for new subscribers).

Apple Music and Rivian’s partnership ensures that the Apple Music app on Rivian feels intuitive, with a familiar UI and controls that complement the EV maker’s existing software.

This is the first Rivian native app with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos. The latest update also includes the Audible app. Audible subscribers can listen to podcasts and audiobooks on the road, with select titles in Dolby Atmos.

Rivian’s Power Outlet and Mobile Tethering Improvements

Rivian has also added a number of other improvements to its latest software update. For example, the Auto option has been added to power outlets to ensure they stay on whenever the vehicle is in use and turn off automatically when it’s not in use.

Until now, Rivian owners have used the Timer function to set how long they want the outlets turned on. This can still be used alongside Auto, for example, to keep the outlets on for a fixed period when the vehicle is unoccupied.

With the latest update, Rivian has also included the option to tether your phone to your EV wirelessly, so your device’s hotspot can be used as a Wi-Fi connection.

While this provides an alternative to Connect+ for anyone who doesn’t want a paid subscription, you need to ensure you have a decent data allowance and speed on your phone so you don’t get overcharged or face streaming issues.
