Apple is ready to roll out its refreshed Mac devices with upgraded M4 series chips in the coming weeks.
Fresh off the heels of the latest iPhone 16 series and the Watch Series 10 launch, Apple is already preparing to roll out new devices. The next event is slated for some time in the coming weeks when Apple will focus on a refreshed Mac lineup with the M4 series.
The new Mac devices arriving (potentially) in October include MacBook Pro models updated with M4 chips, says Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. These include both a base variant 14in MacBook Pro with the M4 chip that was previously announced with the iPad Pro earlier this year. Additionally, more powerful MacBook Pro models, both in 14in and 16in variants and with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips powering them will be announced at the event.

Apple is also expected to refresh the iMac with an M4. The all-in-one machine may not see any significant bodily upgrades over last year’s iMac. Another model with a larger 30in display has been in early stages of development since last year, but the lack of rumors surrounding it suggest it may not launch immediately.
Instead, Apple is expected to unveil a new Mac Mini, which could be the only Mac with a new design this year. It is rumored to arrive in a narrower but taller body. The upgrade could be more exciting since Apple hasn’t refreshed the Mac Mini since January 2023. Like the previous generation, we could see a more powerful model with the M4 Pro chip as well.
Despite many physical changes, all upcoming Mac devices can be expected to get 16GB as the minimum RAM across the board in order to deliver enough power for Apple Intelligence features.
In addition, Apple is expected to unveil new lower-end iPad models, including the standard iPad 11th Gen and the iPad Mini 7th Gen. Unlike the iPad Air and the iPad Pro, both of these models could come with older A-series chips from previous-generation iPhones.
Ahead of the launch, the new Macs are already shipping from factories, and are ready for launch, so Apple can drop the launch announcement anytime now, according to Gurman. The Pro and Max variants of the chip, however, are taking longer, potentially delaying the launch.
Besides these new Mac devices, Apple is not expected to announce a new MacBook Air with M4. The Air was refreshed with an M3 chip only in March this year, and Apple is expected to delay the launch until early next year before it furnishes the lineup with new chips. Other more powerful models, including the Mac Pro and the Mac Studio are also not expected to arrive until the end of the next year.
