Apple Watch’s sleep apnea feature is now eligible for use in both Canada and the US.
Two weeks after the FDA approved Apple Watch sleep apnea notifications, Apple got another from Health Canada, which makes it eligible in both countries.
Apple introduced this feature earlier in September in its blog. It requires an Apple Watch and uses a “Breathing Disturbances” metric to monitor and analyze breathing patterns during sleep. The watch uses its accelerometer to detect wrist movements associated with respiratory interruptions. If it notices the signs of sleep apnea, it will notify the user. One of the potential benefits of the feature is an option to share the monitoring results with healthcare providers. This was one of the reasons why Apple applied for the approval of the FDA and Health Canada.
According to Apple’s blog post, the feature will soon become available in more than 150 countries and regions.
The sleep apnea detection feature will be available on Apple Watch Series 9 and 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.
