Two new Apple home products will launch next year.
Apple is making another attempt at moving into the smart home market with two upcoming smart displays, each designed for different user segments, reports Mark Gurman for Bloomberg. Both products will use Apple Intelligence.
Gurman mentions a tabletop device (codename J595) with a robotic arm and a large, iPad-like display. The robot is hoped to also act as a security feature, a videoconferencing machine, and more.
According to Gurman, another one is the low-end smart display (codename J490). It will use a chip A18 for AI, will be able to run apps like FaceTime, Calendar, Notes, and Home with an interface optimized for seeing information about home appliances and controlling them. The device should be able to recognize various hand gestures.
Both devices will presumably run on the next Apple operating system, homeOS. Gurman expects that the existing tvOS, running on AppleTV, will become the basis for homeOS, with both operating systems ultimately being combined.
This is the device I wrote about in 2023 — a low-end smart display. Not the table-top robot coming later. More in Power On this weekend. https://t.co/xC87wThACi
