Apple’s December-bound release of iOS 18.2 will not only ship with OpenAI’s basic ChatGPT feature but will allow users an option to upgrade to ChatGPT Plus from their Settings.
As spotted by 9to5Mac, this integration is currently available in the iOS 18.2 beta, and adds ChatGPT as an option under Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > ChatGPT, where users can choose to “Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus.”
The subscription, priced at $20 per month, provides access to additional features, including higher message limits, faster response time, real-time voice interaction, and enhanced capabilities with OpenAI’s GPT-4o model.
While core ChatGPT functionalities remain available without a subscription, users who opt for ChatGPT Plus will have access to added tools, such as increased file upload limits, advanced conversational features, and image generation.
Although the partnership between Apple and OpenAI reportedly involves no direct financial exchange, it may offer OpenAI a channel to reach new users through Apple’s ecosystem, potentially driving ChatGPT Plus subscriptions.
In addition to ChatGPT, iOS 18.2 introduces other AI features under Apple Intelligence, such as Genmoji for customized emoji creation, Image Playground for text-based image generation, and Visual Intelligence for object recognition. These updates suggest Apple is prioritizing AI functionalities within its ecosystem as interest in generative AI grows.
Looking further beyond iOS 18.2, the next major update for Apple Intelligence will likely come in April when Apple is expected to push iOS 18.4. This update is teased to bring a wave of improvements to Siri.
