After many months of rumors, Microsoft-owned Activision unveiled Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 during the Xbox Games Showcase.
On June 9, the showcase kicked off with the Black Ops 6 campaign trailer. It featured intense and gritty gameplay footage that left fans eagerly awaiting the game’s release on October 25, 2024.

Microsoft announced late last month that Black Ops 6 would be available on day one for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
Black Ops 6 marks the first Call of Duty title to be officially developed under Microsoft’s umbrella since the game’s release in 2003. This follows Microsoft’s monumental $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2022.
In total, Xbox Games Showcase unveiled 30 new games.

Black Ops 6 Requires Continuous Internet Connection
According to a blog post by Activision, Black Ops 6 will require a continuous internet connection to play any game mode, including the single-player campaign. Per the post, this decision is due to the game’s use of “texture streaming across all game modes.” It allows for higher-quality visuals and reduced storage space requirements but requires a constant online connection.
The requirement for an always-online connection, even for the traditionally offline single-player campaign mode, will likely raise concerns among gamers, particularly those with unstable or no internet access, as it may limit their ability to experience the game.
While Activision has confirmed that players on consoles will not need a premium subscription service like Xbox Game Pass Core or PlayStation Plus to access the Black Ops 6, there are some additional caveats. Split-screen gameplay will be limited to current-gen consoles (Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5) to ensure optimal performance, with no support for the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 platforms.
