Chevy Will Give You $4,000 to Switch From A Tesla to A Blazer EV

Key Takeaways

  • Chevy is offering a $4,000 discount on the Blazer EV if you come from a rival model,
  • Tesla, Lucid, and Rivian cars qualify, as do many from 2010 or later.
  • Only buyers in certain cities qualify.

Chevy has an uncommon way to boost electric car sales: it’s offering a $4,000 discount if you switch from a Tesla or similarly electrified competitor to a 2024 Blazer EV.

CarsDirect said it obtained a dealer bulletin revealing the U.S.  “conquest” offer running between now and June 3rd. It applies to a wide range of EVs and hybrids from 2010 onward. All Tesla, Fisker, Lucid, and Rivian models qualify. Niche cars like the Honda Fit EV count, but there are odd exceptions like the original Hyundai Ioniq Electric sedan.

The deal doesn’t require a trade-in and stacks with other promotions, including a $1,000 Costco bonus.

The list of cities is unusual, however. It includes major cities like Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, and Washington D.C., but omits others like Los Angeles, New York City, and Seattle. You may need to visit a neighboring city or state to get the Blazer EV bargain, although a $3,250 lease cash offer is available elsewhere.

The discount nonetheless makes the Blazer EV more affordable. A two-year lease on the 2LT variant drops down to $399 per month with $1,279 up front and 10,000 miles of driving per year.

We’ve asked parent company GM for comment and will let you know if we hear back.

The Blazer EV is GM’s first mainstream mid-size electric SUV and starts at $48,800. While it’s not the most affordable electric SUV in the lineup (that goes to the Equinox EV, which will eventually include a $33,600 model), it promises a healthy 324-mile range in RWD form. You can also expect Google built-in and optional hands-free Super Cruise highway driving. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto aren’t present, as GM prefers to focus on its own software platform.

The vehicle had a problematic launch. It was originally released in late 2023, but Chevy halted sales after reports of major software flaws that included motor control failures and buggy infotainment. It resumed sales in March with more polished code and significant price drops.

GM, like Ford and other major car brands, has been shifting its attention more toward hybrids as pure electric cars haven’t sold as strongly as predicted. The $4,000 Blazer EV discount nonetheless shows that GM wants its all-electric lineup to sell, and that it’s eager to poach customers who would normally be loyal to the likes of Tesla.
