Coinbase has revealed details of its latest tool which is “promising to bridge” AI with crypto to create automated agents in less than three minutes.

The Nasdaq-listed company unveiled “Based Agent”, noting the advances in developer capabilities that will underpin the new service, delivered in partnership with OpenAI and Replit, the AI-powered software startup.

Lincoln Murr, the lead developer of the project, posted on his X account to declare, “The era of Autonomous Onchain Agents is here”, as he announced the arrival of “Based Agent”.

Coinbase co-founder and incumbent CEO Brian Armstrong echoed the introduction, which can also set up an accompanying X account within the same short period.

What is “Based Agent”?

The premise of the new Based Agent tool from Coinbase is to utilize the advances of AI in a crypto context.

Built on Base, the platform’s layer-3 network, and powered by OpenAI tech, the system allows developers to build agents that can perform complex crypto functions without direction.

In the clip above, Lincoln introduces the theory behind the build of the agent framework with the purpose of making the process as simple as possible for users to follow and replicate.

Different modes can be selected, in addition to the fully autonomous option, with the template design allowing developers to take control and be creative.

As indicated previously, the X/Twitter API allows for the introduction of bots.

In a recent Coinbase blog, the future collaboration was explored with the company intimating AI agents will increase in proliferation to become the most significant drivers of economic activity and growth.

The report continued to state the bots could eventually become the biggest users of applications, “gradually shifting away from human users in the medium-to-long term.”
