Steam has once again set a new milestone, hitting 38.3 million concurrent users on Sunday, marking the highest number of players simultaneously active on the platform.
This continues the platform’s rapid growth, having surpassed previous records of 33 million in January 2023, 36 million in March, and 37 million in August. This achievement highlights Steam’s dominance in the PC gaming market, where it has been the leader since its launch by Valve in 2003.
Popular titles contributing to this peak include Counter-Strike 2, which saw nearly 1.5 million concurrent players. Other heavy hitters, such as PUBG and Dota 2, each drew close to 800,000 users.
Games like Grand Theft Auto V and Baldur’s Gate 3 also played a part in maintaining Steam’s user base, along with Sony’s God of War Ragnarök, which attracted 35,615 players despite some controversy over PlayStation Network requirements.
This growth trend follows the release of formerly console-exclusive titles onto the platform, with Sony and Microsoft both expanding their PC game offerings. High-profile releases such as Ghost of Tsushima and other first-party titles like Halo and Forza have added to Steam’s appeal.
Steam’s rise in concurrent users comes alongside consistent efforts by Valve to keep the platform relevant, including seasonal sales and the launch of the handheld Steam Deck in 2022 and its OLED variant last year.
With more major game releases anticipated before the year ends, industry analysts expect Steam’s record to be broken again soon, possibly pushing past the 40 million concurrent user mark before 2024 is over.
