J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth fans are set to experience a cozy and heartwarming adventure with the announcement of “Tales of the Shire.”
Breaking away from the conventional action-packed RPGs typically associated with The Lord of the Rings franchise, this upcoming title offers a refreshing take on life in the tranquil setting of The Shire.
Developed by Wētā Workshop Game Studio and published by Private Division, “Tales of the Shire” invites players to immerse themselves in the idyllic lifestyle of a Hobbit.
Set to launch in the latter half of 2024 on multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, this game promises to deliver a wholesome experience to both newcomers and longtime fans of Tolkien’s works.
Michael Worosz, Chief Strategy Officer of Take-Two Interactive and Head of the Private Division, stated that the team at Wētā Workshop is crafting a brilliant representation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved works, allowing players to create their own Hobbit experience in Middle-earth.
He also mentioned that players have long desired a warm and inviting game based on The Lord of the Rings, and that is precisely what they are delivering with Tales of the Shire.
As shown in a new trailer published last night, players will assume the role of a Hobbit residing in the picturesque town of Bywater, where they can partake in various leisurely activities such as cooking, fishing, gardening, and forging friendships with fellow villagers.
The game’s emphasis on customization allows players to personalize their Hobbit characters and decorate their homes to reflect their unique personalities.
Kelly Tyson, Head of Product at Wētā Workshop, expressed excitement about allowing players to live out their fantasy of a humble Hobbit life in the Shire.
She noted that “Tales of the Shire” introduces a cozy new dimension to experiencing Middle-earth, featuring wholesome, Hobbit-centric gameplay that will likely attract newcomers to the genre.
