Many customers who have purchased the recently launched Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold are reporting issues with AT&T 5G connectivity.

Just a few days after the launch of the Google Pixel 9 series, AT&T announced that it would not offer the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to its customers. The move was surprising since the company still sells the first-gen Pixel Fold. Despite this decision, it was widely assumed that AT&T would continue to provide network coverage for the unlocked Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Although the device works on AT&T’s network, users are not receiving 5G coverage and have taken to Reddit to share their experiences. The network is currently limited to LTE or 5Ge (a term AT&T uses for its fastest LTE bands).

As anyone facing such an issue would do, users contacted AT&T customer support, but unfortunately, the problem remains unresolved. The support team advised affected users to wait 72 hours after inserting the SIM into the smartphone, but this didn’t help.

While AT&T has yet to officially address the cause of the issue, it seems that either Google or AT&T’s backend isn’t properly communicating the IMEI batches of the new Google devices, leading to these network problems.

Is There Any Fix for This Issue?

There is no official fix available for this problem, but some users were able to temporarily resolve it by removing the SIM card from the smartphone, inserting it into another device, and then putting it back into the Pixel. Unfortunately, this fix is temporary, as the network coverage automatically switches to either LTE or 5Ge after some time.

The concerning part is that the issue is not only limited to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and AT&T combination. There have been reports of users facing call drop issues on their Pixel 9 Pro Fold after connecting the phone to T-Mobile. Another user complained about not getting AT&T 5G coverage on their Pixel 9.

This isn’t the first time users are experiencing network-related issues on their Pixel devices. Back in April this year, users complained of network-related issues after downloading the March 2024 update on their Pixel 7 and 8 series. The problem affected multiple carriers and even extended outside of the US.
