It’s Doom’s 30th anniversary, and Bethesda has surprised fans with a rerelease, Doom + Doom II.
The upgrade-packed revisit is available now, and you can check out the patch notes for everything that’s included.
As well as Doom and Doom II, fans can access loads of extra single-player content including John Romero’s Sigil episode from 2019 and Legacy of Rust, a brand-new Doom episode featuring new demons and weapons, made in collaboration with individuals from MachineGames, Nightdive Studios, and id Software.
Doom Rerelease Brings Mods to Console
That’s not all though. There’s mod support via BOOM, with a new in-game mod browser that lets you download single-player mods even on consoles. On the multiplayer side of things there are 25 new deathmatch maps, bringing the total to 43. Cross-platform deathmatch and co-op now support up to 16 players.
Fans can also enjoy an optional new soundtrack from the composer behind Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods DLC, Andrew Hulshult, or stick with the original midi soundtracks.
The rerelease runs at minimum 60fps at 1080p and supports up to 4K resolution and 120fps on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Those who own Doom (1993) or Doom II can get the free upgrade now on PC (through Steam, the Epic Game Store, GOG, or the Windows Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch.
Also at Quakecon, Limited Run Games announced it’s working on a rerelease of Doom for the SNES, coming in 2025 and featuring all four Doom episodes. We also heard about the Bethesda Doom Anthology physical release, featuring six Doom games, a SteelBook case, and a BFG replica with LEDs and a stand.
