Fitbit remains one of the most recognized brands in the fitness tracker industry. While the Charge series received upgrades last October, the Versa, Inspire, and Sense editions have received no upgrades since new models were added in September 2022.
The Versa range already appears to sit in limbo — how many sub-brands do Fitbit really need?
Since Fitbit Charge 6 launched with many modern health tracking features and Google AI integrations, the Fitbit Versa 4 has been pushed down the pecking order amongst the Fitbit line of products.
Recently, there has been speculation on a possible introduction of a Fitbit Versa 5. Whether Google, which bought the brand in 2021, or Fitbit have an update plan, they will want to keep up with the competition from Apple, Amazfit, and Xiaomi.
To guide your expectations, Techopedia has gathered and compiled some useful information regarding the features, specs, pricing, and possible release date of the Fitbit Versa 5. Below is what we have found out.
Will the Fitbit Versa 5 come out?
Fitbit has not made an official announcement on the Fitbit Versa 5 release date. However, looking back on the previous Fitbit release cycle, we will see that Fitbit typically releases new editions of their series around September of a given year.
It took approximately one year between Versa 2’s launch in 2019 and Versa 3’s arrival in 2020 and another two years before Versa 4 was launched in 2022. So, if we are to go by this pattern, we would expect to hear announcements soon.
But with few whispers on the horizon, there’s no promise that the Versa’s journey continues.
The Versa range was apparently confirmed dead in an interview with senior director of product management for Pixel Wearables, Sandeep Waraich, who told Engadget: “Pixel Watches are our next iteration of smartwatch for Fitbit.”
What We Want From a Fitbit Versa 5
Extended Battery Life, Improved Health and Fitness Trackings
As the Fitbit Versa 4 is now two years old — and with competition out there — here are some ways we would like to improve the fitness tracker.
We do not expect the screen size to increase further. The 1.58-inch AMOLED display in the Versa 4 is a sweet spot that compares nicely with close rivals like the Amazfit Band 7.
We can also expect Fitbit to retain the usual square shape for the watch head proper, which has a 336 x 336 screen resolution and dimensions of 38.1 x 38.1 x 11.43mm.
One important feature that needs improvement is the heart rate monitor. We would expect Versa 5 to come with a better heart rate monitor for accurate heart rate readings, which will also facilitate well-earned Active Zone Minutes during action.
Since Google acquired Fitbit in 2021, most of the smartwatch features that used to appear on the Fitbit gadgets are now exclusive to the Google Pixel Watch.
For example, you can’t download music or install third-party apps in Fitbit Versa 4. We hope Google reverses this policy and reintegrates these functionalities in the Fitbit Versa 5, especially when these features are readily available in their competitors, like Apple watches.
We also want to see Alexa again in Fitbit Versa 5. Since Google Assistant is absent in Versa 4, we hope Fitbit retains the built-in Amazon Alexa.
We also hope to see other important features like a Blood oxygen monitor, GPS, and ECG in the Fitbit Versa 5. While the battery life of about six days in Versa 4 is fair, we hope to see a bigger battery capacity in Fitbit Versa 5.
The Garmin Forerunner 55 promises about two weeks of battery life, so a Fitbit Versa 5 that comes close to that will be a big step up.
Fitbit Versa 5 Price in a Competitive Market

Fitbit has maintained a fairly static price point for their Versa editions. Fitbit Versa 3 and Versa 4 debuted at $229 each in 2020 and 2022, respectively. This is a price point we would expect Fitbit to chase.
However, it depends on the kind of iterations the new Versa 5 will get. If Google decides to keep important features from the Fitbit line of products (rather than remove them), then the price point may stand.
The Bottom Line
Like any good jog, there comes a point when you reach the end of the road. Maybe this is true of the Fitbit Versa series.
But with Google now at the center stage of the Fitbit line-up, perhaps something special is around the next corner — we would expect more AI functions, plus all the speculated features like improved health and fitness tracking, longer battery life, and possibly Google Assistant.
Perhaps the next destination is simply the Pixel Watch 3.
