Ford is joining other automakers by getting into the e-bike field with a pair of electric two-wheelers “inspired” by the Mustang and Bronco.
The company has teamed up with cycling brand N+ to release models that purportedly capture the “spirit and performance” of two of its best-known cars.
Both the Mustang E-Bike and Bronco E-Bike share a 750W hub-mounted motor that delivers about 63ft-lb of torque and a 28MPH top assist speed. Ford estimates 60 miles of range on a 3.5-hour charge.
You can also expect a dual suspension, four-piston hydraulic brakes, a built-in LCD, and a “motorcycle-style” seat.
The differences come down to optimizations for where you’ll ride. The Mustang E-Bike has road-tuned suspension as well as semi-slick Pirelli Angel GT tires meant for speed and handling. The Bronco E-Bike, meanwhile, has offroad suspension tweaks, grippier Pirelli Scorpion Enduro M hardwall tires, and bright lights.
You can order both Ford e-bike models today starting at $4,000 for the Mustang and $4,500 for the Bronco. Shipments start later this year. There’s also a 60th Anniversary Edition Mustang model that’s exclusive to dealerships.
Ford is far from an early entrant into the category. Audi and its sibling brand Porsche have sold e-bikes for years, and Jeep has offered a QuietKat-made machine. You also don’t have to buy from Ford if you want this kind of performance.
Still, the Mustang and Bronco bikes might be ideal companions to a Mustang Mach-E — they’re the Ford EVs you can take when a car isn’t practical.
