Late Saturday into early Sunday (PT), the Google app on Android crashed with a “Google keeps stopping” error. Google fixed the issue by 1:11 AM PT.
Users experienced repeated crashes when trying to search, with the app crashing immediately upon opening. Older versions were also affected, and uninstalling updates via App info was not a viable fix, leading to additional complications, according to 9to5Google.
What Exactly Wasn’t Working
Opening the Google app from the home screen caused it to crash, briefly showing the app before returning to the homescreen. The Google Search bar widget also crashed after displaying past queries.
The Pixel Launcher search bar loaded search results briefly before crashing, Google Discover failed to launch, and the Voice Search microphone stopped the app. Repeated attempts resulted in a “Google keeps stopping” error.

The issue affected the latest stable and beta versions of the Google Search app on Android 15, 14, and earlier, impacting devices like Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy.
However, Gemini, Google Assistant, Google Lens, and Circle to Search continued to work, and google.com functioned normally through Chrome for Android. Other platforms were unaffected, indicating the issue was specific to the Google app on Android.
Google Fixed the Problem
By around 11:00 PM PT, some users began to see the app working again.
Google confirmed a “service disruption” at 11:07 PM PT on Saturday. By midnight, the company reported that the issue was being addressed and advised users to clear the app cache and data. At 1:11 AM PT on September 15, Googleannounced the problem was fixed, and no further updates would be provided.
