Google has unveiled an experimental new AI tool called “Learn About” that’s designed to be an interactive educational companion.
Unlike the typical Q&A chatbots we’ve gotten used to like ChatGPT, Learn About takes a more tailored approach by packaging its responses with visuals, videos, and other multimedia aids.
The core AI model behind Learn About is called LearnLM, which Google introduced earlier this year. The company said it’s “grounded in educational research” to better emulate how humans actually learn and understand topics. So instead of just spitting out direct answers, it guides users through an explorative learning experience.
That means when you ask a broad or specific question, Learn About’s AI won’t just define terms – it’ll break down the subject with helpful visuals, examples, vocabulary builders, and links to credible sourced content. The site reportedly favors serving up information from forums rather than your average AI chatbot, which tends to summarize the top few search results. You can even upload your own materials to explore curated topics.
Of course, you can always just treat it like a fancy search engine and ask one-off questions if you don’t want the full instructional experience.
Getting started is simple – just sign up using your existing Google account. From there, you can either ask a question in the search box or upload materials to explore a topic further. The platform also has ready-made templates covering everything from cooking to astrophysics.
It’s worth mentioning that Google already offers some advanced resources like Google for Developers. But Learn About is seemingly focused on bringing learning to the masses in a radically accessible, exploratory format.
