NotebookLM now supports audio files and YouTube URLs, allowing users to summarize videos and create AI-generated discussions, enhancing note-taking.
The feature summarizes and analyzes YouTube videos by examining the text in their transcripts, including auto-generated ones.
Starting today, you can upload YouTube video URLs and audio files directly to NotebookLM, in addition to Google Docs, PDFs, text files, Google Slides and web pages.

To add a YouTube video in NotebookLM, go to Sources, select YouTube, paste the URL, and click Insert. When you add a YouTube link, the app generates an AI summary of key topics from the transcript.
Users can click on these topics for more details and ask questions, with suggestions available. While Google’s Gemini and Microsoft’s Copilot can summarize YouTube videos, NotebookLM offers starting points for deeper exploration.
Additionally, users can create an Audio Overview from the content. Google launched this feature on September 11, allowing users to generate natural-sounding discussions that summarize and link key points from the source material. Users can also create a public link to share these overviews directly, although this feature is not currently available for Workspace users.
Moreover, Google announced that NotebookLM now allows users to add audio recordings, enabling the search of transcribed conversations for specific information, alongside Google Docs, Slides, PDFs, and more.
Google emphasizes that users’ personal data is never used to train NotebookLM.
