First launched in 2016 as a chatbot app, Hugging Face pivoted four years later to become an effective open-source hub for AI models.

The platform aims to nurture an engaged community with AI and ML researchers able to access an array of tools including curated datasets and AI-powered demo apps.

The extensive range of models available on the platform includes Llama, Gemma, Phi, Flux, Mistral, Phi, Starcoder, Qwen, Stable diffusion, Grok, and many, many others.

Hugging Face Confirms Profit-Making Status

The landmark achievement for Hugging Face comes just two months after the CEO confirmed the company was generating profit.

A previous post on X, formerly Twitter, celebrated the breakthrough with mentions of the company’s cash reserves and the lack of reliance on venture capital.

The rise and prominence of the platform have been achieved thanks to the vast quantity of models available, supported by the collaborative approach and focus on fine-tuning existing models for specific functions.
