Apple’s many expected AI features in iOS 18 might include automatic transcriptions in the Voice Memos and Notes apps, according to AppleInsider sources.
The upcoming release will reportedly create a text transcription of audio just by tapping a bubble icon. The features could be very useful for students who want to transcribe lectures, journalists looking for interview quotes, or office workers who want to preserve meetings.
iOS 18 is also expected to include AI summarizations in Voice Memos and Notes. You might get a clear view of the actions you need to take. You could also add images, tables, and web links.
Other iOS 18 improvements may include long-expected support for Reminders in the Calendar app, a revamped Calculator app, and other overhauls for core apps. Apple may even rely on Google Gemini for some AI features in addition to its own technology.
Apple is expected to introduce iOS 18 at WWDC 2024 on June 10th, and has strongly hinted that AI be a central focus at the developer conference. The company typically releases beta versions of OS updates soon after WWDC, and the finished versions in the fall.
The company hasn’t been shy about promoting AI capabilities in recent months. When it introduced the iPad Pro M4, it touted the new tablet’s AI performance as superior to that of other PCs. The shift is an acknowledgment that Apple was relatively late to the generative AI trend kickstarted by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and that the tech is quickly becoming a selling point for Google, Microsoft, and other competitors.
