Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro might get a very noticeable battery capacity increase, according to a leak.
Chinese Weibo user and veteran leaker Instant Digital has shared what they claim are the battery capacities for this year’s high-end Apple handset. The standard iPhone 16 Pro would reportedly get a 3,577mAh pack that’s over 9% larger than in its predecessor, while the Pro Max would get a 4,676mAh capacity that’s nearly 6% larger.
Apple has boosted battery capacity over the years as devices got larger and more demanding. However, the increases have sometimes been slight, and not always enough to offset more demanding chips and displays. An improvement like this theoretically translates to longer real-world use.
The capacity hike might be necessary, though. The iPhone 16 Pro is rumored to get a larger and brighter 6.3-inch screen, while the Pro Max will grow to 6.9 inches. Apple Intelligence might also drain more energy with on-device AI tasks, even if the unofficially expected A18 Pro chip is more efficient.
Other battery technology is poised to play a major role in the iPhone 16 Pro. Stacking could improve both the capacity and the long-term lifespan. It might also support 40W wired and 20W MagSafe (or Qi2) wireless charging that helps it catch up with other mainstream flagship phones.
Further upgrades could include up to 2TB of storage, Wi-Fi 7, and a 5X telephoto camera on the base Pro (previously limited to the Pro Max). You might also see new colors. While the iPhone 16 Pro isn’t likely to be a major redesign, the collective updates could make it more appealing than some of the more iterative improvements of recent years.
