  • Kia America will offer NACS adapters for its EV6 and EV9 vehicles.
  • This will allow customers to access a network of over 16,500 NACS DC fast chargers, including Tesla, across the US.
  • The adapters will be delivered free of charge to selected customers in early 2025.

Kia’s popular EV6 and EV9 vehicles will soon be able to access Tesla Superchargers and a network of other NACS DC fast chargers in the US.

The NACS adapters will be delivered free of charge in “early 2025” to customers buying a new 2024 or 2025 Kia EV9 or 2024 Kia EV6 from September 4th, 2024, and onwards.

Anyone whose EV was delivered before September 4th will soon be able to purchase an adapter from authorized Kia dealers.

Kia to Offer Three Types of NACS Adapters to Customers

Kia will offer three types of NACS adapter:

  • NACS to CCS1 – this lets existing Kia EVs DC fast charge.
  • CCS1 to NACS enables NACS-equipped Kia EVs to charge via existing CCS DC chargers.
  • J1772 to NACS – this lets NACS-equipped Kia EVs AC charge on existing level 2 chargers.

Access to fast chargers for Kia EV drivers is planned for January 15th, 2025.

Starting in early 2025, Kia EV owners can pay for and access charging via the Kia Access app. Some vehicles will need a software upgrade to allow for this, and a Kia Connect subscription is required.

EV6 and EV9 owners can use the EV infotainment screen or their smartphone to search for and navigate to the nearest charge points. They can also find out charger status, pricing, and availability.

The VP of Sales Operations for Kia America, Eric Watson, said that offering NACS adapters would “open up a vast number of charge points across North America.” He added that it will expand Kia-accessible DC-charge points by over 83%.

This news will give EV owners greater confidence in reaching far-flung destinations. It will also ensure that the popular EV9 is a more compelling choice for road trips without worrying about finding a compatible charging point.
