A purported image of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition shows what it could look like, with a slimmer body and a chunkier camera bay.
Rumors have persisted for months about a sleeker version of Samsung’s book-style folding phone. For the first time, claimed visuals of the reported Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition show us what the device might look like.
Android Headlines has shared what it says is an image of the new foldable. In addition to supporting previous rumors of a slimmer profile, the seemingly digital render gives us a glimpse of what the back of the upcoming foldable could look like.
Despite its low resolution, a few aspects stand out. The image suggests the Special Edition could come with flattened edges similar to the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6. The triple camera system could also sit higher than the Fold 6, presumably to compensate for the slimming efforts. Previous reports indicated the main camera could be upgraded to 200MP, up from 50MP on the existing model.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition is also said to come with a brushed metal finish on the back, though Samsung could potentially achieve that effect with glass. Metal on the back could hinder wireless charging, NFC, and any magnetic connections for sleeves meant to carry the S Pen, which the phone is rumored to support.
The foldable is also believed to place the power button and the volume button on the side like on the standard Fold 6. However, the power button could stick out in a possible attempt to save space inside. The image also shows the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition’s cover display with a centrally-mounted hole-punch camera.
In addition to the supposed appearance, previous leaks suggest the phone could feature a larger 8-inch inner display. The cover display is also rumored to be slightly bigger at 6.5 inches.
Leaks also hint the Special Edition could be among the thinnest sideways opening foldables, being just 4.9mm (0.19in) thick when open and 10.6mm (0.42in) when folded. These dimensions could make it considerably slimmer and more ergonomic than the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6, which measures 5.6mm unfolded and 12.1mm closed.
Meanwhile, manufacturers with relatively less experience with foldables are releasing slimmer phones, such as the 9.2mm-thick Honor Magic V3 and 10.5mm Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. OnePlus’ next foldable, expected to be a rebadged Oppo Fold, is also rumored to be slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Samsung might not make the phone available worldwide. Rumors so far indicate the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition could be limited to South Korea and China. The conservative approach might stem from costs pushing the price beyond the already steep $1,900 of the existing Fold.
