Leica has released a new version of its Q3 digital compact camera, the Q3 43, with an upgraded lens.
Since 2015, when Leica introduced its first model in the Q series, it has used the same 28mm f/1.7 lens in all models. However, the new Q3 43 features an all-new APO-Summicron 43mm f/2 ASPH lens, specially designed for close-up and portrait photography.
Leica Q3 43: Camera Features
Apart from the upgraded lens, the new addition to the Q series is similar to the Q3 in most respects. It retains the same 60 MP full-frame sensor with adjustable resolution options for 36 MP or 18 MP. The ISO range is 50 to 100,000, and has a hybrid autofocus system and leaf shutter design. Like the Q3, users can shoot video at up to 8K at 30 FPS on the Q3 43, and it is also said to offer expanded frame rates and chroma subsampling when shooting in 4K.
The new release features a dedicated button for in-camera digital cropping, which is included in all Q series models. However, the Q3 43 offers cropping settings for 43mm, 60mm, 75mm, 90mm, 120mm, and 150mm, an upgrade from the Q3, which only replicated focal lengths up to 90mm.
The camera has a 3-inch touchscreen, USB-C connectivity, and built-in wireless support. Leica has also introduced a new color treatment called Leica Chrome, which gives photos a more analog-like appearance.
Leica Q3 43: Price
Unfortunately, the Q3 43 does not include a charger in the box. Users will need to purchase the BC-SCL4 battery charger separately, which costs $200, in addition to the Q3 43, priced at $6,895. The camera is available for purchase directly through Leica stores and authorized retailers.
