Meta appears to have accidentally leaked the render for the upcoming Quest 3S virtual reality headset on Meta Quest Link PC software files.

This leak was first spotted by UploadVR and posted on Reddit and shows what looks like a mix of the Quest 3 and the Quest 2 VR headset.

This aligns with previous leaks and our previous report that has suggested the Quest 3S will be a more affordable variant of the Quest 3, featuring the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset and color pass-through mixed reality capabilities. However, it will use the older fresnel lenses and single panel display from the Quest 2 to hit a lower price point between $299 and $399.

UploadVR also discovered that Chinese accessory makers are already selling products for the Quest 3S on AliExpress, with photos that appear to show the actual headset.

While Meta remains tight-lipped on what the Meta Quest 3S might look like, we can infer from the recent leaked renders that the Meta Quest 3S features six front-facing cameras, with three on each side. This appears to be an upgrade from the Meta Quest 2’s four cameras positioned at the corners of the headset.

This difference in camera number and placement could enhance the Quest 3S’s ability to track movement and map the environment, offering better depth perception, improved mixed-reality performance, and more advanced hand and face tracking compared to the Quest 2’s more basic tracking capabilities.

Meta is widely expected to unveil the Quest 3S at its upcoming Connect conference, scheduled for September 25-26, 2024.
