Konami’s upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will feature two different camera perspectives that alter the game’s difficulty.
The remake is titled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and players will be able to choose between the new “over-the-shoulder” third-person view or the original, more distant “Legacy Style” perspective from the PlayStation 2 release. However, switching between these perspectives mid-game won’t be possible, as it would have complicated the balancing of the game’s difficulty.
In an interview with Famitsu, creative producer Yuji Korekado explained that the modern third-person “New Style” offers a wider, more linear field of view, allowing players to aim and shoot while moving.
This made the game easier than expected.
To address this, the development team had to carefully adjust the difficulty for the modern camera style while preserving the original experience for those who prefer the “Legacy Style.”
Korekado revealed that while the Legacy Style retains the challenge level from the original Metal Gear Solid 3, the New Style is being balanced from scratch to account for the gameplay advantages that come with improved mobility and visibility.
The addition of the modern camera brings the gameplay closer to that of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, moving away from the zoomed-out, fixed perspective of the 2004 release.
Producer Noriaki Okamura told VGC that the development team aimed to modernize the game without losing the essence of the original, ensuring that new players won’t feel like they’re playing an outdated title.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has not been given a release date yet, but it is expected to be announced later this year and launch sometime in 2025.
