Key Takeaways

  • A tiny quadricycle with 'beach-inspired' looks and a stylish new cabin was unveiled at the 2024 Paris Motor Show.
  • The concept features a two-seater design, combining functionality with aesthetic appeal.
  • The First Edition will be priced at €24,990 (~$27,300).

Inspired by the Fiat 600 Jolly and Citroën Mehari, Microlino’s latest special edition offers a vegan leather interior and a topless driving experience.

Micro might be best known for its Micro Scooter, arguably one of the most common sights on any morning school run. However, the Italian company also offers a line of tiny, electric bubble cars that are gaining popularity in Europe.

It can now add the stylish Spiaggina version to its model line-up, which includes Microlino and a lower-powered Lite. Thanks to its L6e vehicle status, the Lite can be legally driven from the age of 14 in some European countries, such as France and Italy.

The more powerful Spiaggina model is supposedly inspired by legendary beach cars like the Fiat 600 Jolly and Citroen Mehari. It fuses deliberately retro aesthetics with the company’s modern safety technology.

Despite only sporting a 10.5 kWh battery pack that powers a small 12.5kW (17hp) motor, the Microlino features an automotive-grade steel unibody that goes above and beyond the usual safety standards seen in the quadricycle category. A single charge will see the diminutive electric vehicle travel for around 110 miles.

Like the rest of the range, the Spiaggina has space inside for two people (and 230 liters of luggage). Still, the vehicle stands out from the current lineup thanks to a canvas roof and windowless design, which allows its side-by-side occupants to experience the ocean breeze while silently cruising the beachfront.

Greater Customization Coming to Micro Cars

“The Microlino Spiaggina is an idea we’ve had in mind for years, and it’s finally become a reality,” said co-founder Merlin Ouboter. “It will be the most stylish vehicle for Europe’s summer destinations like Portofino, St. Tropez, or Ibiza.”

Pushing the tiny bubble car upmarket, Micro will offer the Spiaggina in a First Edition, which will come with either Portofino Blue or Sardinia Sage exterior paint. The interior receives a dose of high-quality vegan leather, especially developed for use on boats so it doesn’t perish in the salty sea air.

Alongside the Spiaggina model, Micro also previewed future customization options for customers at the Paris Motor Show. These options will allow buyers to choose from a wide range of exterior colors for the roof, body, trim line, and wheel caps at dealer level. Micro plans to expand to the North American market next year.
