After nearly a year of testing, Microsoft has finally released the Windows app for macOS, iOS, iPadOS, web browsers, and Windows.
The Windows app is available in the Microsoft Store for Windows and on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It can also be accessed through web browsers if users prefer not to install the software on their devices.
The app allows users to access and use various Windows features across different devices. It enables connections to Windows services like Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Remote Desktop, Remote Desktop Services, Microsoft Dev Box, and more. The Windows app offers a consistent experience across all devices on which it is used.
Microsoft has also added support for home screen customization, multi-monitor compatibility, and USB redirection, which allows users to use local devices like webcams as if they were directly connected to a cloud computer. However, it’s important to note that the app is currently only available as a public preview for Android devices. Microsoft is seeking feedback from users before its full release. The app can be downloaded from the Play Store.
At the moment, the app is only available to Microsoft work and school accounts, and there are no indications from Microsoft that it will expand support to consumer accounts. The Windows app is primarily designed for users who are already part of the Remote Desktop clients for Windows and other operating systems.
The availability of the Windows app will make it easier for users to switch between devices and software, allowing them to continue working even if they are not using their regular device.
