Microsoft has responded after thousands of users were impacted by the outage of its productivity software and cloud-based services on Thursday.
As initially reported by the real-time web status indicator Down Detector, around 23,000 users reported issues with Microsoft 365, and a further 4,300 with Teams.
Earlier in the day, Microsoft Azure’s status page advised it was investigating issues for AT&T users connecting to its cloud computing platform, but at the time of writing it shows there are “currently no active events.”
Down Detector noted 1,500 reports of outages on Azure, while Xbox Live, Outlook, and the Microsoft Store were also hit.
The US tech giant has said the problems with connectivity are now mitigated.

Microsoft365 Status told users “We’ve confirmed that a change within a third-party ISP’s managed environment resulted in impact. The ISP has reverted the change and we’re now seeing signs of recovery”, before advising “impact has been remediated”
Problem Centered on AT&T Networks
PCMag has outlined how the connectivity issue appears to be focused on AT&T networks with Microsoft referencing “a change within a third-party ISP’s managed environment”, as above.
This has been cited as the primary contributor to the outage, with the carrier’s customers reporting issues across Florida, Ohio, Texas, Alabama, Connecticut, and Mississippi.
Reddit users suggested a problem with AT&T’s fiber internet, as they found services were working on Starlink, T-Mobile, and Verizon.
A spokesperson for AT&T told PCMag, “We experienced a brief disruption connecting to some Microsoft services on our network. The issue has been resolved and connections are operating normally.”
