A new mod, NoPSSDK, has been developed by Nexus Mods user iArtorias to remove the PSN linking requirement for the PC version of God of War Ragnarök.
The mod, which disables the PlayStation PC SDK runtime, allows players to bypass the controversial requirement to connect their Steam account to a PlayStation Network (PSN) account, a feature many players found unnecessary for a single-player game.
The mod has gained attention due to general dissatisfaction with Sony’s insistence on PSN integration for PC games, with several negative Steam reviews highlighting the issue.
When God of War Ragnarök launched on PC, the game received a “mixed” rating on Steam, with complaints not only about the PSN requirement but also about technical issues such as crashes and visual bugs.
However, the mod has been well-received by players frustrated with these limitations, and the game’s rating has since improved to “mostly positive” (though assessing how much the mod itself exactly impacted the overall rating is difficult).
In its Nexus Mod page, iArtorias stated that the mod was designed to address errors related to the PlayStation PC SDK, which caused issues for some users, including sudden error messages.
The mod, which has been downloaded over 1,700 times, does not alter the game’s core code and is not intended to promote piracy. Some users have reported occasional difficulties with the mod, but the creator has provided additional troubleshooting tips, such as adjusting firewall settings.
While Sony has yet to comment on the mod, its popularity reflects growing player resistance to mandatory PSN integration in PC ports of PlayStation games. The mod’s success may signal a shift in expectations for future PlayStation titles on PC.
