OpenAI has expanded its partnership with consulting firm Bain & Company to bring advanced AI solutions to various industries.

Initially established in 2023, this partnership now sees Bain’s 13,000 consultants using ChatGPT Enterprise as of August 2024.

The extended collaboration centers on developing industry-specific AI applications tailored for sectors such as retail and life sciences, the company said in a press release. The objective is to create AI solutions that offer more than standard capabilities, addressing the specific needs of industries seeking practical applications to improve business performance.

Bain’s Worldwide Managing Partner Christophe De Vusser pointed out that many companies have moved beyond the experimental phase of AI and are now focused on using these tools to achieve measurable business outcomes.

De Vusser confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that around 50 Bain employees are involved in this initiative. OpenAI, however, has not disclosed the number of its personnel working on this project, and the financial details of the partnership remain confidential.

Bain’s technology and AI services currently make up 30% of its revenue, and the firm expects this to grow to 50% in the coming years.

OpenAI’s partnership with Bain is part of its larger strategy to expand its enterprise offerings. The company reports having over one million paying business clients, including users of ChatGPT Enterprise and its educational product, ChatGPT Edu. This figure has grown significantly from 600,000 business users earlier in the year.

Despite facing internal changes and leadership transitions, OpenAI recently raised $6.6 billion and achieved a valuation of $157 billion. The company now has over 1,700 employees, with 350 team members focused on sales, partnerships, and technical support for its business clients.
