The latest leak comes from reputed leaker OnLeaks and 91Mobiles, revealing what seems to be the official marketing material for the Pixel 9 series. While the phones’ specifications have mostly been disclosed unofficially, the latest leak adds newer information about exclusive features.
As expected, Google’s Tensor G4 is at the helm of all four devices and offers a range of new AI experiences likely to be exclusive to the Pixel range of devices. This includes a new feature called Pixel Screenshots, which supposedly helps you find screenshots with text prompts. While the leak does not exactly reveal how the feature works, it potentially analyzes the content of the images or remembers context from your Google search history.
The experience is likely powered by Gemini app on mobile, which runs on Google’s Gemini Nano machine learning model on the older Pixel 8 devices. We can expect Google to announce reasonable upgrades to the model’s capabilities during the event.
Additionally, the leak also talks about updates to the Personal Safety app. The existing Emergency SOS features that let you call or share live video with trusted contacts and first responder services in case of an emergency. With the updated version, Google could add crisis alerts for calamities such as fires or floods.
The upcoming version of the Personal Safety app could also warn users about potential scams, malware, or phishing attempts. But the exact extent to which Pixel phones can go with this approach — especially beyond calls and messages — has yet to be seen. We could see Google herald the Pixel 9 series’ on-device AI processing to scan for threats apps or web pages. The on-device processing supposedly allows Pixel devices to run extensive general models without uploading any personal information to its servers — although the fine print in the leaked material reads that these features may require the internet to function. We’ll have to wait until the launch event to deduce Google’s intent.
The leak also confirms that Google will extend its promise of seven years of incremental updates to the Pixel 9 series as well. Besides these Pixel-exclusive features, the leak iterates a host of previous rumors and information, including the specifications of the four devices, their color options, and contents of the box.
